CoolSculpting vs. Tummy Tuck: Which is Right for You?

CoolSculpting vs. Tummy Tuck: Which is Right for You?

Whether a New Years resolution, preparing for warm weather, or simply trying to change your look, you might be thinking about what you can do to look your best. Diet and exercise definitely help, but often does not help get rid of body fat that remains in areas like the hips, arms, thighs, and buttocks.

Cool Sculpting and tummy tucks are both popular procedures for people looking to eliminate stubborn fat, improve the appearance of their bodies, and increase their self esteem. Both procedures vary in their effectiveness, side effects, and techniques to achieve their desired effects. Read our guide to learn the differences between CoolSculpting and tummy tuck.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting utilizes a form of cryolipolysis, or a procedure that targets and reduces fat by freezing them. In a series of sessions, practitioners use concentrated cold that causes fat cells  to crystalize, shrink, and get naturally eliminated from your body. As the fat cells decrease, the remaining layer of fat condenses, reducing the look of bulges and folds. CoolSculpting eliminates fat by up to 25% in the treatment area.

In addition to its effectiveness, a major advantage of CoolSculpting is that it is a non surgical fat reduction technique. It is also safe for all skin types, is an FDA approved form of body contouring, and requires minimal or no downtime after a session, meaning less time spent recovering and more time with loved ones.

Beyond mild discomfort, CoolSculpting has very few side effects. Temporary discomfort can include minor aches, stinging, temporary skin discoloration, and swelling of the treatment area.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tucks improve the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin via an incision made right above the pubic line. Sutures are used to pull skin and connective tissue down and give the abdomen a tighter, more toned look.

Tummy tucks are very effective in getting rid of excess fat and achieving a more sculpted look. Due to its centralized location on the abdomen, a tummy tuck can be perfomed at the same time as other cosmetic surgeries, making it an attractive option for those looking to improve other areas of their body.

A major drawback of tummy tucks is it does require surgery, which often takes patients several weeks to recover. More complications can arise from tummy tucks, such as fluid buildup beneath the incision site, poor healing, unexpected or unwanted scarring, or changes in skin sensation.

Which is Better?

All candidates who seek to eliminate excess fat should have realistic goals and specific areas of their bodies from which they want fat removed.

CoolSculpting procedures offer more versatility and can be applied to more areas of the body, whereas a tummy tuck can only be performed on the abdomen. Tummy tucks also carry more risks than Coolscultping. Thus, tummy tucks not effective as CoolSculpting in achieving a more toned body.
